COVID Food Relief 2020

Inspired by our partner organization, Manav Sadhna, we turned our focus to feeding those in our community most in need in the wake of COVID-19.

With the help of over 200 volunteers and community supporters, we packed 1200 boxes of shelf-stable, healthy foods designed to feed a family of 4 for 2 weeks. Foods included rice, pinto beans, rolled oats, green lentils, all-purpose flour, dried tomatoes, dried onions, and spices.

Beneficiaries were identified by Catholic Community Services. Roughly 900 boxes were distributed through their Joyce Hansen Food Pantry in Ogden, UT, where clients are able to collect food only once per month. Many of their clients are undocumented workers who didn’t receive unemployment benefits or the federal stimulus, and who may be wary of reaching out to service providers for help.

The remaining 300 boxes were divided between CCS’ refugee services, to be distributed by refugee case-managers, and the Islamic Society of Utah. We have been inspired and uplifted by the support of our community during such a difficult time. Thank you to the 200+ volunteers who helped us pack and deliver boxes, to the Woodbury Corporation for donation our work-space, and to Charity Vision, the Andrus Family, Zwick Construction, Lowe Companies, AVS, and Honeyville Mills for their generous support. Dry Creek will continue to explore food relief opportunities in the coming months.
