Mount Olympus Refugee Garden

The Mount Olympus Garden was established in 2012 by a partnership between local government, nonprofit organizations, and neighbors to transform a long-vacant plot of land into a community pillar.

Bhutanese Story

The Mount Olympus Garden provides plots for local Bhutanese refugees to grow and harvest their own food in partnership with the New Roots of Utah program through the IRC. Over the years, the garden has become an integral part of these refugees’ lives, not only providing them with a means of food production, but also serving as a gathering place for cultural celebrations and community meals. In 2020, we had over 40 families using the garden.

Paul Fetzer

Since 2012, neighbor Paul Fetzer has volunteered his time and expertise to manage the Mount Olympus Garden and offer training and support to refugee and New American gardeners. As of 2020, Paul has stepped back from his garden responsibilities to enjoy retirement. We are deeply grateful for Paul’s dedication and altruistic spirit over the years. We will miss you Paul!

New Roots

An original partner of the garden, New Roots has returned in 2020 to fill in where Paul Fetzer left off. New Roots provides opportunities for refugees and immigrants to produce fresh food for their families and increase their economic stability. Their staff provides invaluable farming and irrigation expertise as well as additional support for refugees and New Americans.
